Kowhainui Village’s perfect location

Kowhainui Village is located in Otamatea in Whanganui; everything is at your finger tips.

While the village is placed outside the hustle and bustle of town for peace and quiet, it is only a 15 minute walk from St John’s Hill Shopping Centre, which includes a chemist, dairy, hairdressers and takeaway shop.

Kowhainui Village is also just a 20 minute walk from the picturesque Virginia Lake Reserve, where you can pack a picnic and enjoy a day of birdwatching, scenic walks and feeding the hungry ducks that roam freely.

Need something else? No problem, Kowhainui Village is just a few minutes drive from the CBD or you can take a bus directly to Whanganui’s main shopping centre.

Many Enliven village residents tell us they love having the freedom to travel; all the while knowing their home is secure. Holistic care vital for elder-centred community

Enliven’s Kandahar Home is highlighting the importance of holistic care when it comes to supporting the region’s elders. Kandahar Home and Kandahar Court manager Peter Newman says the strong, positive links between the emotional wellbeing and physical health of older people are now well-established, although physical health is still often the focus of care.

Kelvin keeps up carving passion at Kandahar

For Masterton’s Kelvin Thacker, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a few hours spent practising bone carving – and moving to a rest home hasn’t changed that one bit. With the support of staff at Enliven’s Kandahar Home, Kelvin has been able to carry on his passion in a specialised hobby area set up especially for him earlier this year.

Enliven encourages seniors to try Tai Chi

Many people agree that Tai Chi is a beautiful art form to watch. But it is also a great form of exercise which offers significant health benefits, especially for seniors. That’s why Enliven positive ageing services is inviting Wellingtonians to come along to its modified Tai Chi classes – and offering first-time participants who attend class on or before March 31st their first session free of charge.

Brightwater Home ‘like one big family’

When Herbie Makene first moved to Enliven’s Brightwater Home in Palmerston North in 2014, he wasn’t sure how he’d cope with the transition to rest home living. But with the support and encouragement of staff and residents at the Enliven home, Herbie says he’s come to embrace Brightwater as his home.
